Still Here, Still Loud: Why Women in Music Must Own Their Sound (and Their Power)

This Saturday, I’ll be speaking at the Music Placement Conference 2025. And while I’m honored to sit on a panel, let me be clear—this is not just another “diversity” conversation.

This is about survival. Ownership. Power.

Because right now, as companies quietly dismantle their DEI departments, as “inclusion” becomes a dirty word in boardrooms, and as decision-makers pretend they never heard of equity... I’m still here. We’re still here. Women. Black women. Indie artists. And we’re not going anywhere.

👑 The Industry Still Has Work to Do

Inclusion isn’t a trend—it’s a necessity. Not because it’s cute. Not because it’s progressive. But because some of the most groundbreaking, genre-defining, soul-shifting music is coming from women of color, queer artists, and creatives who don’t fit a corporate mold.

If the industry won’t protect us, we protect ourselves, and that starts with the basics.

📜 Own Your Sh*t: Protect Your Art

You’d be shocked how many talented artists are out here with unreleased heat and no protection. No copyrights. No split sheets. No PRO setup. No plan.

Let me say this with love and a little edge:

If you don't protect your art, someone else will—and they'll profit off it without cutting you in.

Here’s your starter pack:

  • Register with a PRO (Performance Rights Organization) – BMI, ASCAP, SESAC—pick one and get paid.

  • Copyright your music – In the U.S., that means the Library of Congress. Simple, fast, necessary.

  • Track your metadata – This is how you get found and placed. It matters more than vibes.

  • Know your splits – Don't wait until a song blows up to figure out who gets what.

💡 We Deserve to Be in Every Room

Sync licensing. Publishing. Film scores. Ad campaigns. Video games. Money lives there. And women deserve those seats. Especially women who’ve been told they’re “too different,” “too indie,” or “too Black.”

I started Siren Syncs to make sure we show up, get paid, and get credited. Not just featured—respected.

Whether you’re new to the game or seasoned but overlooked, I want you in the room where decisions are made and money moves.

🗣 So If You’re a Woman in Music…

Let this be your reminder:

  • You don’t need permission.

  • You deserve access.

  • Your sound matters.

  • And it’s time to handle your business like the mogul you are.
